Wild Strokes Retreat

15th - 20th September 2019

Connecting to the Wilds of the Cornish Coastline

Wild Strokes Retreat is an invitation to step away from our daily lives and into the ebb and flow of the Southern Cornish coast. Through a daily rhythm of meditation, walking and wild swimming we will create and cultivate opportunities to connect more deeply to ourselves, to each other and to the physical landscape that hosts us.

With the peaceful Tremeer Farm as our base, each day will begin with a morning meditation, followed by a nourishing breakfast to fuel our walk to various swimming locations along the Polperro Heritage Coast. We will return to Tremeer Farm in the afternoon, giving you plenty of time to rest and relax in the hot tub before a communal dinner and evening around the campfire.

There is a wealth of literature available citing the benefits of a regular meditation practice, spending time in natural environments and swimming outdoors. We invite you to join us on a Wild Strokes Retreat and discover your own relationship to these practices, gifting yourself a space to meditate, be in nature and swim in the wild. You will be warmly welcomed.

“The water is your friend. You don’t have to fight with water, just share the same spirit as the water, and it will help you move.”

- Alexander Popov

Rebecca and Helen

Wild Strokes Retreat was born out of friendship. Led by Helen Kerridge and Rebecca Esho Greenslade, they met ten years ago on a psychotherapy training course in London. Rebecca introduced Helen to meditation. Helen introduced Rebecca to the wild landscapes of the magical Cornish coast. A conversation developed between them upon the relationship between meditation practice and outdoor swimming. A beautiful October weekend last year found them walking along the Polperro Heritage Coast and swimming in the coves of Lansallos. From this weekend of playful exploration together, Wild Strokes Retreat was conceived.

Helen and Rebecca both work as psychotherapists, sharing a practice room on Hackney City Farm in East London. Helen grew up swimming the Cornish coastline and will bring her years of experience to leading the swimming expeditions and supporting you to develop a comfort and ease in the sea. If we can persuade her, Helen will also be teaching some Cornish folk songs to sing round the campfire together! Rebecca’s love for the ocean developed from spending much of her twenties scuba diving in South East Asia. A practicing Zen Buddhist, Rebecca will be guiding you though meditations (morning and evening) and planning nourishing meals to keep you well fed throughout the retreat.
